FAST FORWARD: A DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILM

Founded by a small group of local gay runners in 1981, the DC Front Runners has become a thriving and integral part of the Washington, DC gay and lesbian community and has fostered fun, fitness, and friendship among gay runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. The club takes its name from the 1974 novel The Front Runner by Patricia Nell Warren — a significant piece of gay literature and the genesis of hundreds of Front Runner chapters across the country and around the world.

Fast Forward, a documentary short film directed by Marcel Acosta and produced by Brian Beary, provides a poignant and inspirational glimpse into the courage of those who founded the club; portrays the challenges of gay life in the nation’s capital during those formative years; and contrasts the perspectives of a newer generation of Front Runners whose experiences differ, given society’s greater acceptance of gay life. The documentary premiered at the DC Front Runners 30th Anniversary Celebration and Gala on September 24, 2011.  The film had its public premiere at the Rosebud Film Festival in November 2011.

Fast Forward was recently selected to screen at the Our City Film Festival on Sunday, February 12, 12:45 pm at the Goethe Institute, 812 7th St NW.
