Seth Kalish, Coordinator
Seth joined DC Front Runners in 2002, after years of running on his own listening to his cassette Walkman. At first running with the group just once a week, then twice, then three times, he eventually became addicted to running with others. Even when recuperating from an injury, Seth still manages to show up at the group’s occasional happy hours. Running with the group, he says, has pushed him to become a much better runner as well as introduced him to a great group of new friends.
John Noran, Walking Coordinator
John became a DC Front Walker in 2001 and was elected Walking Coordinator in 2003. In spite of his promise to run a vicious smear campaign against himself if anyone else agreed to run, he is now beginning his fifth year unopposed. Along with championing our increasingly popular walking circuit—now in its third year—John is spearheading the DCFR Memorial Grove restoration project in Rock Creek Park, scheduled to kick off in 2008.
Lennie Carter, Treasurer
Lennie joined the club in 1997, having never run more than 6 miles a week. Being intimidated by the fast runners, he stayed in the middle of the pack for the first year. One year later, Lennie ran in the Amsterdam Marathon. He has completed 19 marathons, including 6 Bostons. Lennie and his partner Charlie served as Race Directors for over four years, and he now is the club's Treasurer. His motto: outlive your competition.
John Wineberg, Secretary/Archivist
John became a DC Front Runner in 2005 after years of solo-running. In spite of a few injuries along the way, John enjoys both running and walking with the group and has even been known to run a circuit race every now and then! This is his second year as our Secretary/Archivist.
Taneen Carvell, Race Co-Director
Taneen joined the club in 1998 when a neighborhood walk found her amongst a group of runners gathered at 23 & P Streets. Her new friends provided great support as she took on the Boston Marathon. After serving as club Coordinator (‘01-’03), Taneen ventured into the world of triathlons, and in 2006 completed the Ironman USA in Lake Placid, NY. Still, running remains her true passion and her club bonds have brought her back into the role of Race Co-Director to help motivate others to experience the joy of competition.
Jeff Dutton, Race Co-Director
Jeff joined DC Front Runners in 1998, and the 2006-07 race circuit season was his fifth consecutive year to complete the circuit. Jeff participated in track and field events during the 2002 Sydney Gay Games, and he organized Front Runner training for the track events for the Chicago Games in 2006. He is happy to be able to give something back to DCFR, encourage more members to compete, and spread the good news about members' racing feats.
Blake Rushin, Outreach Co-Director and Training Coach
Blake has been a member of DC Front Runners since 2000 and has served as Outreach Director for the past two years. She is an active circuit racer for the club and organized and coached the club’s first 5K race training program for beginners this year. She will continue to both promote DCFR in the LGBT community to increase membership, especially among women, and coach our race training programs.
Alex Rodriguez, Outreach Co-Director
Alex Rodriguez (not to be mistaken for the baseball player) joined the DC Front Walkers in August of 2006. He is uber-outgoing and social and loves to walk and talk (among other things!). Alex is very excited about the opportunity to be Outreach Coordinator for the DCFR/FW by welcoming and encouraging others to walk and/or run with this great group! He hopes to see you at the Saturday walk/run as well as the many Happy Hours (can we do more than one a month?).
Marcel Acosta, Newsletter Editor and Webmaster
Marcel joined the club in 2003 and discovered that he was a plodding tortoise in a warren of swift Front Runner hares. He amazed the hares by finishing the Marine Corps and Chicago Marathons before the city street sweepers arrived! Marcel is the editor of FrontPages, the club’s quarterly newsletter and is the designer and editor of our fancy new website. And yes, he also remembers the ending of the fable...<insert maniacal laugh here>
Rudy Reyns, Membership Services
Rudy moved to DC in early 2006 and joined the DC Front Runners to meet new people in the area. You'll see him at our well-attended Saturday morning runs and our Friday night happy hours! Rudy prefers half-marathons and sprint triathlons. He handles membership services for the club, including administering the club’s new Member Manager site, on-line member directory, and weekly member e-mail updates.
Orlando Adan, Apparel Diva
In his second year as the club’s fashionista and apparel coordinator, Orlando has been a member of DC Front Runners since the summer of 1998. He was an enthusiastic runner since high school and now is a regular Saturday morning DC Front Walker. He has been a spin instructor for eight years.
