The DC Front Runners is offering a special ten-week 5K race training program starting on Saturday, March 29, 2008.


Participants will train to complete their first race: the Mutts Strut 5K at American University on Sunday, June 1 or the 5K Run for Pride in Rock Creek Park on Sunday, June 8. Our training programs are designed for both first-time runners who want to get into shape and more advanced beginners who would like to cross-train or improve their running abilities in a supportive, non-intimidating environment.


Using a run/walk method, the beginner’s program focuses on completing a race, gaining fitness and establishing a healthy lifestyle through running. You do not have to be fast or have running experience to successfully complete this program and the 5K race. The advanced beginner’s program is designed for those who have some running experience or conditioning and may include more running, less walking and longer distances to build endurance.


Participants will meet for consecutive group training sessions on Saturdays, 10 am from March 29 through May 31. The assembly place for the group is Shevchenko Park, 23rd and P Street NW in Washington’s Dupont Circle neighborhood. DC Front Runner Blake Rushin, a Road Runner Club of America certified running coach and other experienced club members will provide coaching and advice.


There are no minimum speed or fitness requirements to participate in this program. All are welcome to register regardless of age, pace, sexual orientation, experience or fitness level.


HOW TO SIGN UP


1. Please register by sending an e-mail to train@dcfrontrunners.org. Your registration e-mail should include your name, phone number, e-mail address and beginner/advanced beginner program preference. Your confirmation e-mail will provide follow-up information on program registration and other details. The deadline to register is March 26.


2. You must be a member of DC Front Runners to participate in the program. If you are not a current member, CLICK HERE to JOIN the club, pay for your dues and agree to the club’s liability waiver policy.


3. Register for the Mutts Strut or 5K Run for Pride.
